The Daily

I love the newspaper. I love to be able to sit and read through it. Unfortunately, I usually don't have time to read it. It piles up in the recycle bin. This week I got the bill for next years subscription. Like everything else, the cost of subscription has increased dramatically. The logical conclusion then is to say goodbye to the daily. To join the post modern world and skip the old school print. Hate to face that, but it is just time to let it go.

We get etertainment from the paper in the form of crosswords and other puzzles. I read it every morning and marvel at how poor it is. The Morning Advocate out of Baton Rouge is a far superior paper to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. First they shrunk the paper, and then the reporting became less and less. And they maintain Bob Ray Sanders, an avowed racist, all his columns have some race issue in it. Yeah, you guessed it, Bob Ray is Black. it would not be bad, except he can not resist pulling some racist element in each time he writes. If he left that out he would be an outstanding columnist, as it is he is just average.

The sports section used to be pretty good but it too has been gutted. Coverage is limited to the Rangers or Mavericks, Texas, Texas A&M and gurdgingly whatever collegiant champion is around.

I understand they are hurting, advertisement way down - big advertizers are the autos and relators and they are hurting. I wonder if it will keep going. Financial section is less than satisfactory, little coverage other that what happens in Fort Worth.

I about cried when I had to cut our subscription when Craig lost his job in April. We have had a subscription to DMN since 1990. Most mornings I miss it terribly. We did decide to get it on Wed. and Sun. (a special coupon from Tom Thumb) which cost less than the Sunday paper by itself. So I look forward to those 2 days when I can drink my morning coffee and enjoy the feel of newsprint on my fingers. I feel your pain!
