LSU... still #1

Yes, they lost. But look at the schedules, how OSU could claim #1 is rediculous. LSU goes into a top 20 ranked SEC team's home field and loses in 3OT. Kentucky was fired up and they proved that they are top calibur. I don't think anybody could have beat them Saturday.

And LSU gets that loss after coming off of playing top ranked Florida, South Carolina and Virginia Tech. And has to now face the 3 As: Auburn, Arkansas and Alabama. And a not to shaby Ole Miss in the mix as well.

Don't talk to me about Ohio State. The first half of their schedule was lopsided in their favor with no top 20s. Anybody can beat Kent St., Akron, Northwestern, ... I think the BCS machine is total garbage.

Randy Hill thinks LSU is still the best, too, no matter what the BCS says. I, being a Baton Rouge-raised boy, of course agree. The Tigers have beaten three times as many Top 15 teams as the teams ranked ahead of them in the BCS, and while those aren't the only stats the BCS computers take in to account, it's certainly a major case. Should they prevail over Auburn this weekend, the Tigers will have beaten more Top 20 teams than any of the others (provided rankings remain pretty static for the rest of the season).

It's extremely tough for a team to emerge from the SEC undefeated, which is what makes Auburn's perfect season in '04 such a delight, and something they should be justifiably proud of. A one-loss SEC team is better than an undefeated Pac-10, Big East, or ACC team any day of the week, and this season, better than a Big Ten or Big 12 undefeated, too.
